Butterfly Beach is the small horseshoe-shaped cove tucked between Palolem and Agonda in South Goa. How to Reach Butterfly Beach
1. By boat from Palolem (easiest)
Walk to the northern end of Palolem Beach where the fishing boats are parked. Boatmen will approach you the moment you reach the sand. The standard shared rate in 2026 is ₹400–₹600 per head for a round trip with roughly 45 minutes on the beach. Ask clearly whether the price is round trip and how long you get — that one question avoids 90% of the arguments later.
Most operators combine it as a “dolphin + Butterfly Beach + Honeymoon Island” trip. That combo usually costs ₹700–₹900 per person and takes about 2 hours.
2. By boat from Agonda
From Agonda Beach the boats leave from the southern end. It is a shorter ride, slightly costlier per head because fewer boats operate here. If you are staying in Agonda huts, ask your hut owner the night before — they get you a better rate than walking up to the beach cold.
3. By trek (free, but not for everyone)
There is a forest trail from the Palolem–Agonda road near Canaguinim. Park your scooter at the mud clearing, then it is a 20–25 minute walk downhill through cashew trees, followed by a steep, slippery last stretch. Wear shoes with grip, not flip-flops. Going down is easy; coming back up in afternoon heat is the hard part. Do not attempt this trail alone after 4 PM — there is no phone signal for long patches.

Best Time to Visit
November to February is the sweet spot — calm sea, clear water and comfortable morning light. March to May is still fine but the midday sun on an open cove with zero shade is brutal, so go at 8 AM. Dolphins are commonly spotted on the Palolem route between 7:30 AM and 9:30 AM. Later in the day the water traffic increases and sightings drop sharply.
What to Expect When You Land
The beach is roughly 200 metres wide, backed by thick green forest that curves like butterfly wings — that is where the name comes from. The sand is coarse and golden, the water is shallow near the shore and good for a swim. On a weekday morning you may share it with 15–20 people. There are no shacks, no toilets, no shops and no drinking water. Whatever you carry in, carry back out — plastic left here ends up in the tide pools.

- Carry cash. Boatmen rarely accept UPI reliably here; network is patchy.
