How to Reach Goa — By Flight, Train, and Bus (Complete 2025 Guide)

Planning a trip to Goa but not sure how to get there? You have three main options — by air, by train, or by road — and each has its own advantages depending on where you are travelling from, your budget, and how much time you have.

In this complete guide, we cover all three ways to reach Goa from the major cities in India, with estimated prices, journey times, and practical booking tips.

By Flight — The Fastest Way to Reach Goa

Goa has two airports. The Manohar International Airport (also called Mopa Airport) in North Goa is the newer and larger of the two, having fully opened in 2023. The older Dabolim Airport (Goa Airport) in South Goa continues to operate alongside it.

Direct flights to Goa are available from virtually every major city in India throughout the year, with increased frequency during the tourist season from October to March.

Flight Times and Prices (Approximate):

From Mumbai: 1 hour | ₹1500 to ₹6000 one way
From Delhi: 2 hours | ₹2500 to ₹9000 one way
From Bangalore: 1 hour | ₹1500 to ₹5000 one way
From Hyderabad: 1.5 hours | ₹2000 to ₹7000 one way
From Chennai: 1.5 hours | ₹2000 to ₹7000 one way

✈️ Flight Booking Tip: Book at least 4 to 6 weeks in advance for the best fares. Prices increase dramatically in the last 2 weeks before December and January travel. Use Google Flights to track price trends.

By Train — The Most Scenic Way to Reach Goa

Travelling to Goa by train is one of the most enjoyable ways to arrive, especially on the Konkan Railway route which passes through stunning coastal scenery — lush green hills, rivers, and glimpses of the Arabian Sea.

Major Railway Stations in Goa:
Madgaon (Margao) Station — The main and busiest station in South Goa. Well connected to Mumbai, Delhi, and most major cities.
Thivim Station — Located in North Goa. More convenient if you are heading to beaches like Baga, Calangute, or Anjuna.
Vasco da Gama Station — Located near Dabolim Airport in South Goa.

Popular Train Routes:

From Mumbai: Mandovi Express (10 hours), Konkan Kanya Express (10.5 hours) | ₹300 to ₹2500 depending on class
From Delhi: Goa Express (40 hours) | ₹600 to ₹3500 depending on class
From Bangalore: Goa Express (14 hours) | ₹400 to ₹2000 depending on class

🚂 Train Booking Tip: Book train tickets on the IRCTC website or app at least 3 to 4 weeks in advance. Goa trains get fully booked very quickly during the October to February season.

By Bus — The Budget Option

Travelling to Goa by bus is the cheapest option and there are services from most nearby states. The journey is longer and less comfortable than flying or taking the train, but budget travellers who are not in a rush find it perfectly acceptable.

From Mumbai: Private Volvo AC sleeper buses leave Dadar, Borivali, and other stops from around 4pm to 8pm and arrive in Panaji or Mapusa by 6am to 8am the next morning. Journey time approximately 12 to 14 hours. Tickets cost ₹700 to ₹1500.

From Bangalore: Multiple private operators run overnight buses to Panaji and Mapusa. Journey time approximately 10 to 12 hours. Tickets cost ₹600 to ₹1200.

From Pune: Private sleeper buses leave in the evening and arrive in Goa by morning. Journey time approximately 8 to 10 hours. Tickets cost ₹500 to ₹1000.

Book bus tickets on RedBus, Abhibus, or directly with operators like Paulo Travels or Kadamba Transport Corporation.
